My what a difference a year makes. Last year North Texas sides claimed 8 titles at the 2008 Southern Regionals. This year North Texas only notched a single title. The dropoff is easy to explain on the boys side where the new Academy soccer has definitely lowered the level of Dallas Classic League play. No boys teams were able to claim a title this year. Dallas Texans Red 95 gave it a wonderful go though falling in the final to CASL of North Carolina in penalty kicks after 90 minutes of scoreless play. The Dallas Texans 93 boys also made the finals losing on two late goals to CESA of South Carolina.
Of more concern is the girls performance which fell off dramatically from last year. In 2008 the North Texas girls sides grabbed four titles. This year they could only manage one. Only the Dallas Texans 94 girls were able to earn a title as they scored twice in overtime to defeat NASA Elite of Georgia. The overtime goals came from Kelsey Shimmick in the 98th minute and from Mary Alissa Lonsberry in the 106th minute.
In U18 girls play the defending national champions Dallas Texans 91 were knocked off by ESC of Oklahoma on a goal in the 128th minute on a set piece. The D'Feeters 90 also fell in the U19 final falling to BUSA from Alabama 1-0 in a tight match.
